Hi guys.
Simple query here.

My Nan has just moved to a new bungalow and there is a problem with the cooker.

It sometimes trips the rcd in the Consumer unit. Not every time she uses it, but occasionally.

I looked at the fuses and the cooker is wired to a 32 amp breaker.
Is this right ? as i thought it should be a 45 amp ?

It has recently been rewired and the electrics look OK to me (not a sparks).

I just need to know if i should change the mcb to a higher rated one or not ?

Thanks.

MCB protects the cable not the cooker what size cable do you have and when it causes a trip which part of cooker is being used as it may be the cooker itself causing the problem.

Chris

If its the RCD tripping then there is an earth fault either on the appliance (quite common due to heating elements breaking down), or in the circuit.

Under no circumstances increase the size of the MCB as its there to protect the cable.

What he^^^^^ said :D

So leave the MCB Alone..ok.

It is a single electric oven. She said it trips during the heating up time - sometimes it could be straight away, sometimes it could be after 15 mins...it varies.

Is there a way i can test the cooker for my Nan ?

Should i look to replace the heating element for her ?
