Hi All,
I have had a call from local woman asking whether I am able to replace her cooker that currys refused to replace due to no RCD protection being present on a TT system. There is a voltage operated earth leakage circuit breaker.
With a cooker replacement being an appliance on a circuit how do you all see this sitting.
Ideally the whole installation needs upgrading with appropriate RCD protection but I could see this opening up a can of worms with the potential to need to rewire the property or nuisance tripping by a more sensitive device being installed and looking at the worst case of a potential rewire would be next to impossible with not being able to get in 2 rooms and just about able to walk along the hallway with the amount of clutter in the property.
Just wanted some other opinions on the situation before I proceed.
Thank in advance
Matt

a like for like replacement of an appliance does not require any alterations to the fixed wiring unless there are obvious dangers present. i'd check earthing and bonding arrangements though.

If you are happy with the existing arrangements then maybe you could install it for her.

Currys seem to me, that they are being more careful about what they will, and what they won't connect - this is to be applauded as it generates business for the professionals in the industry.
