Hi, I have a customer who has bought a 7Kw hob to compliment a 4.8Kw double oven. He didn't realise the extra power consumption would put additional loading on the existing 6mm cable. My initial response was to tell him that an additional circuit was required and due to locations of consumer unit and hob it won't be straightforward
However I looked at diversity regarding cooking appliances and 51amps loading reduces to 23 or 28 amps which is within the capacity of the existing wiring.
I will probably still go with the additional circuit but what's the point of having diversity if we don't apply it. Thanks for your thoughts.

Whats the point of cable and current carrying capacities if you are then going to disregard all the evidence and recommendations to then make up your own presumptions and install extra cable where none may be required
