Hello all,
can copper covered Aluminium T&E and the modern copper equivalent (ie 2.5mm) be mixed in
a final ring circuit? Thanks,
John.

Yes ...............providing that the original cable is tested and it's integrity proven. As this cable would be at least 40+ years old I would give it a good test to make sure it is ok.

Out of interest you are sure it's aluminium, I have to confess I think I've only used it, or seen domestic Ali 3 or 4 times, so it's pretty rare

Ali is much softer and more pliable than older copper imperial....it feels altogether different...it is rare, but there is an estate in my area where there is a great deal of it. No end of problems with breaks in ring continuity etc.

There was a period in the 80's (i think) where they used a lot of copper clad aluminum T&E cable, on new private built estates, but was discontinued not long after. The equivalent copper clad aluminum for a 2.5 copper cable was 4mm. As i remember correctly and was a pain to spur off ...lol!!! I know this, because i had a friend that had this stuff installed and asked me to install some extra sockets for him. Not sure what the lighting cable size was off hand, but that was bigger than normal, copper clad stuff too!! So be aware, it is around folks!!

I think the smallest size that this copper clad stuff is allowed these days, is 16mm...
