What is the difference between cord and cable?

cord is usually a term used for flexible cable, as in the cord fitted to an appliance, whereas trhe term cable covers all sorts.

I'd say one has an outer braiding (as like most iron's) while the other has a rubber or PVC outer covering... But i may be totally wrong ...lol!!

A cord would be the appliance flex that connects the appliance to the fixed wiring cables that supply the outlet to which the appliance is connected. IMO.:stuart:

Just out of interest, the term 'flexible cord' was deleted from BS 7671 by amd 1, 2008. The term 'flexible cable' remains though.:goofy:
