So time has come, everyone is sick of me asking them to drill me holes or borrow their cutter.

Bought a cheap high power drill today and now need a core bit @117mm what would you buy and what should I avoid?

THANKYOU!

If you are intending to use a 117mm core bit I would avoid using a drilling machine that has not got a clutch as breaking body bits (wrist, arm etc) can occur if it jams. Also a drill with variable speed is good so you can run the core bit at optimum speed

i bought a cheap set of core bits from tlc that seem to work fine (around ÂŁ60 if i remember right). did take their time on dampish redbrick though but i huess thet would have affected all the makes (had to keep removing the bit to clean off the (gloop, not dust) from the cutter and the sides of the hole.

UNG.....THANKYOU!!!! Cheap drill returned!!!

So, looks like I will buy the Clarke bit (However watching a macrist on flea bay)

Following your good advice........Which Drill?????

You obviously don't want to damage yourself

Talking to a couple of mates yesterday who run a hire shop they only hire out core bits as a kit with the machine so there can be no claim made against them for injury. They had a customer come in last week wanting to hire a large core bit only they refused the hire and offered the kit complete they asked the guy with him what had happened to him as his arm was bandaged and bruise on his forehead the previous core bit they owned had jammed!!!! no clutch / torque limiter on the drill so he got thrown and the core bit was a right off

I have the Makita 8406 machine which is specified for use with core bits had mine for about 10 years now

I would say it is more about the bits than the torque of the drill. I use high quality Fisch auger bits for drilling out mortices and peg holes...
