Hi all, applied to LABC for a new circuit a few weeks back and the cost was £126 for a job costing less than £2000, applied today for another job and they've put the price up by £200 to £326!!!!! how can they justify such a large increase? is anyone else finding this occuring in their part of the world?

i called labc last week and told them i wanted them to test 2 jobs for my dis assessment, the guy sounded very suprised, obviously hardly anyone goes through them. he faffed about for a couple of minutes before saying it was £237 per job regardless off what it was. nice work if you can get it!

My local council (Surrey Heath) charge £160.00 for a LABC visit and subsequesnt test/sign-off by a Part P sparky. Getting my Part P was the best thing I ever did. It's lowered my costs, reduced the amount of hassle and has given me a greater amount of knowledge than I previously had. Don't get mad, get your Part P

Hi I'm just about to rewire a kitchen called Labc they said they will visit when first fix is done and again when the job is complete and they said i can do all the testing but i still have to pay them £150

You are all being ripped off,in my opinion they must have you down as unskilled or something, you dont need "part p",its a load of crap,if your qualified you test & inspect your own work then they just sign it off, because you are not with a self cert scheme, when u are with a scheme all they do is notify building control on your behalf and charge you £400 a year for the privilage, its all a load of bullcack,i did a cu change, spoke to building control and they said its £65 for a qualified spark who is not on a scheme yet(sent quals in)bloke was happy and put me down on his list of sparks not on a scheme.just have to pay £60 per part p notifiable job,if they are charging £200-300 this is what they would charge to send a sparks who is on a scheme to check a diyer who had changed his own board(dont know why they would allow this)but thats how it is here and it makes sense, they dont need to send someone to test your work only a jobsworth to tick his form and walk down the road,if ever a sparks card was needed now is it.

I wouldn't say being part P registered is a load of crap.

If I had to pay £60 for every notifiable job I did I would be spending thousands each year.. Instead I only pay my £400 odd and notify as much as I want, I think I have the better deal here

if ever a sparks card was needed now is it.

Never a truer word said. If the last government did anything right then Part P was not one of them a knee jerk reaction to an isolated accident involving a politicians relative.

If they had just listened to the industry they would have got it right. We must be one of the very last developed countries in the world where electrcians are not registered as individuals. America, Canada most of Europe all have the same type of registration that the UK gas safe tradesmen need.

What we have is the farciacal situation of where a 30 yr timed served Electrcian can not work on his house unless he notifies the LABC and pays them, or creates a company to join a scheme. Why is electrical competance linked to having a complaints register?

On the other side we have a accountant that as paid for a get qualified quick scheme that in 4-5 weeks can be called a Domestic Installer, and let loose on the public as a competant person.

Said it before I'm glad I'm coming to the end of my time as a sparks as it makes me go cold to see what is happening to my industry.

Im not saying being registerd is crap, its good because the client know they are getting a skilled worker, and at £60 a pop its the only way,but i think its a bit of a joke as i have seen some terrible installs by unqualified people on notifyable works,so its not serving its purpose in my view, gas safe type card with quals on it,job done.
