There's a guy who lives down the road who was in the shower and he turn off the button on the shower when he'd finished using it and then there was a big bang. He removed the switch on the wall outside the on suite shower room to find that the switch had heated up and the earth was fried at the switch and consumer unit. It's an old wylex pull out CCU. I went round to have a look and was shocked to find that the shower was on the upstairs ring! The shower is also an 8.5kw apparently and not the original one fitted in the house when it was built, the cable looks like 6mm. It's obviously got no RCD protection and I'm not sure if bonding is even present either. To add to this, the shower room is small and is subject to a lot of steam and has no IP rated light. He wants extra sockets in one of the bedrooms also. I think it's time for a new CCU and some testing.
