OK, well here's a thing: UKIP do seem to have a lot of money to spend on canvassing, and that money is coming from somewhere!
I think for the first time in my life I'm undecided on the whole thing. As someone who is well travelled and worked all over the world, I embrace the idea of multiculturalism, I think it leads to a much richer life experience for all involved. But, I am getting completely fed up with policy after policy after policy which seems to treat this small island of ours like a Tardis, and seems to think that somehow the ever decreasing working percentage can support the ever increasing non-working. Something's gotta give somewhere!
And there is an enormous difference between managed migration and racism. If I apply for a visa to the U.S. I have to justify what I am needing to go there to do and how it will be of benefit to the US nation as a whole. Nowhere on the form does it ask what colour my skin is. It used to be the case that you could only go there to work if you were doing a job 'no other American could do' (although that's now changed). That's not racist, that's just common sense in protecting your way of life.
A couple of miles up the road from here there is a slaughter house / meat factory - and it's staffed almost entirely by Poles. Because, once your workforce is all speaking efficiently in one language, who's going to then employ an english speaker that will just slow everyone else down? And if you're being interviewed by a Pole, and all your competition is also Polish speaking, who do you think is going to get the job? (NOT having a go at Polish, btw, it's just an example relevant to me). Meanwhile, my 16 yr old daughter who is looking for a summer job once she's finished her exams won't get a look in anywhere.
I've yet to make up my mind, but I'm watching this one with interest!!
