Anyone watching this on BBC1 at the mo?

Can't believe some of the folk that are on it ... one guy renting out his council flat whilst having property in France!

Yeah he's got a few other properties and he sometimes appears on home makeover programmes on the telly.

Yep that copper owns a flat in London next door to a flat he rents off the council at £91 pw that he rents out at £450 pw!!! We are in the wrong game lads.

corruption is the word IMO Councils have got way to BIG and need to localise opperations get trust of people again and deal with fraudulant people correctly ie Evict them immediatly with NO housing benefit ect ect its us who pay for these fraudsters

its down to the people who do it,you cant blame the councils ,its the way of the world now, people with no ethics are the problem..take take take, its the way now,imo council or social housing are for those who need it,not for those to profit from it.

yea Alarm BUT if the councils operated localy (our HQ is miles away ) and had people visiting houses ect checking up on everyone then they may save money but as most stuff is done remotley there is loads of unseen stuff goes on Direct Debit reduces the need to go to office and pay rent im sure the money they would save if the fraud teams got out and chapped doors would pay their wage bill no problems

but that would mean employing more council workers, its not what the tories want, you would need to employ a private company to do that and pay way more..or teach people to be honest and take only what they need..not sure which is the cheapest option..where getting like the states man..greedy bassas, today watched a couple of...(insert own words) claim consultants (cough) badger people if they have had an accident in the last 3000 years...w'kers in cheap suits and trendy hair getting people to claim for nothing..

IMO it's a bit of both - people shouldn't be doing it and the councils shouldn't be letting them.

Firstly more people need to be caught (preferably everyone) and secondly when they are it shouldn't still work out beneficial for them, eg lose any 'right' to any benefits for 5 years or so, have to pay back the money (in this guy's case £450 a week from whenever the property was let to him) and a criminal record for fraud, which in this case should mean the guy loses his job. Splashing his face across the tabloids would act as a deterrent to anyone else thinking of ripping off the taxpayer in the same way.

Missed it ! i know a guy who retired at 17 and hasn't done a days work since and i dont know what he does but all i know is after my bloody bills he's got more money than me to live on ! makes you sick ! i feel sorry for the people who got a mortgage to buy a flat in this nice looking new complex a company built in Reading and who work hard only to find that part of the planning permission granted by the council was that the council would have some of the flats so next they knew was this riff raff non working dossers moved in as well so there was 3/4 of hard working people and 1/4 of dossers in it since then the value has dropped right down of the flats and theres old wrecked cars etc outside and all sorts of riff raff walking about the neighborhood all hours !!! NICE !!!!!!!!!

I think the point the tories are trying to make is that you can still achieve the same (or better) effect for less money - Labour seemed to manage to squander a load of money on actually making schools and the NHS WORSE, partly by throwing money we didn't have at every situation; the tories' seem to favour tackling the underlying issues instead.

Consider the effect WW2 had on the nation's health - rationing and frugality actually made people healthier! WTF? Obviously reintroducing rationing wouldn't be a vote winner, but it might force people to live a healthier lifestyle.
