As yet I am unable to get full detail from the source who mentioned this to me. Whether this is someone trying to avoid Minimum Import Price, or simply passing off rubbish as a verifiable brand I dont yet know.
Apparently the label on the back of the panel was less than genuine. This could lead to all sorts of problems. How would a lot of installers know if it is a 270w panel or really a 240w? Only full testing measuring irradiance and temperature with extrapolation back to STC would give confirmation.
As always you get what you pay for. We will be sticking with the brands and suppliers we know.
If you want to know of the exteme version of this, how about a case from Australia. An installer was called to an underperforming system, obscure panels made somewhere in the Far East. Transpired half the cells were printed plastic and not Si!
