I have just finished some courses for leaving the Navy,Domestic installation,Part'P' JIB H&S, 17th and C&G2391. I am looking at a few corses with Tradeskills4U. pat testing, PV Insallation and a few others. Has anyone used this company before???

My advice, save your money! PV is a burst bubble and after one day PAT testing, you'll be so braindead with boredom you'll want to slit your wrists! (No offence to any PAT testers on here). Also, it's a pointless qualification anyway as you don't even need it to be a PAT tester.

If you're serious about electrical work, see if you can line a job up as an electricians mate for when your finished with being a matelot and get yourself on a three year evening course at college doing the C&G 2357.

Oh, and welcome to the forum :)

Edit: Just read your other post, if you've already got a full electrical qualification, scrap my previous advice, however I stand by what I say about PV and PAT testing!

Thanks for that mate, I'm trying to find work now. It's just I have a grant that will pay upto 80% of a course at level 3 upto £2000 and would rather luse it than loose it.

how about the design course, 2391-20, i think. and maybe a course on PLCs - very much appreciated in the industrial sector.

try local colleges. the courses tend to be far less costly than these independent " train -in - a-week " sharks.

Richieftm, i'm currently in the navy as well and have done the same courses as your self and currently doing C&G 2330, not sure if you realise that your ELC can be used after you have left the navy but you do get taxed on it but can claim it back. So this amounts to not getting the full £2000 which you will have to factor in when applying for a course; i think it can be used up to about 5 years after leaving the service; not sure if got exact timescale correct but know can definetely be used after leaving as spoke to resettlement about it.

I just want to use the £2000 before i leave so i don't have to muck around claiming the tax back. you can use the ELC's for upto 10 years from leaving aslong as the course is level 3 or above.

Well as Telectrix said you could do the design course, i want to do that one myself but will wait until the changed course comes out as the course is changing from a level 3 to 4 and don't want to take too much on, get 2330 out the way first. Anyway all the best, hope you find a course that suits and good luck in the job hunt when you leave.

Do a HNC with a local UNI....! plenty listed on the ELC site...! and a lot of them will split the fees so you can full benefit of the allowance..!

I'm a WE general service for my sins, would like to do a HNC at later stage once out and settled, less than a year to do now. Main aim to get job then i'll think about other courses after, thinking of trying to find a firm soon that can get some work experience with as would like to get NVQ 2356 done before its gone; finishing July i believe.

Time done for me and glad to be going as getting worse by the minute, when not at sea or course they seem to be lining us up to cover strikes. A few where i work getting ready in case the petrol tankers do strike; then its security cover for the olympics and such other; they got rid of loads of people but still trying to cover the same commitments.
