HI guys, im new on here so hi all.

My query is this, I have recently passed a course with train 4 trade skills (home study) and gained full scope part p, what I really want to know is what people think about these courses, have I done the right kind of course? can i make a career on this course? or have I just flushed money down the drain. I know people have done courses for about 4-5 years to get qualified so obviously I dont know every thing about the industry as theres much more to learn, my course took me 3 years but practical sessions was practically rushed through although i picked it up quick what they was teaching luckily.

I was thinking about re-wiring my house to put my pratical sessions into practice and paying building control to inspect it for me, would this be a possibility. or can i gain experience elsewhere

any advice would be great thanx guys

home study courses can give you some knowledge but not the training you would need
you are better served training under a competent master.
an apprenticeship may be hard to come by but you will learn things and put them into action with quite a bit more confidence in your skills.
the requirements for proper schooling in the UK can be best answered by the licensed sparks there and the proper authorities concerning the electrical training.
I am not trying to put you off being a spark!
on the contrary,
I encourage you to get the proper training because it safer for you and your future customers.

With 3 years at college you may get a job as a spark on a large company who goes through sparks like wild fire. How long you last will depend on several factors. My bit of advice to you is to drop the term part p when you discuss your qualifications. If you say you did 3 years at college you may get a break, part p chatter will only hinder your career, JMO.

so other than starting fresh at a proper collage and proper indepth courses, what other types of courses will boost what i know/don,t know. or is starting again at collage the best option all round?

You could complete the re-wire and use it as a notifiable job to join one of the schemes. Then once you have parted with your membership dosh sign the work off yourself, saving the hassle and expense in notifying your local building control.
