Morning all,

I have asked this question before, but didnt get much feedback the first time round so im hoping the second times a charm and someone is going to jump out the wood work and help me out!

Im looking to write a cover letter for CU change work, but would really like to nail it, and get a good, to the point and informative letter written. Im usually pretty good at such things, but i want to make sure i get all the relevent information down and down miss any useful pointers and specific details.

can any body possibly show me a full example of one, or is there a generic template i can go on to get in written correctly?

Any advice, help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, Ben

Well the sort of disclaimer letter.

Highlighting the fact that extra work that surfaces as a result of investigation will incure a further cost that has not been specified in the initial order.

Any remedial corrections that may be done will be done at cost outside the agreed parameters.

Putting things right to bring the system up to BS 7671.

That kind of thing, just a general sort of, terms of work letter. you with me?

Yeah its all in my terms and conditions is that, so when the customer signs the my contract agreeing to my quote they agree to them also.

As for customer who doesn't want to sign the contract or moans about can use some else for the job

Be careful your letter could turn into a hangmans noose. And could make it look like your covering your a*** due to lack of confidence/experience.

Mention full PIR to be carried out before change, but will not necesarily find all faults. But will allow you to give a more accurate quotation and will reduce the amount of final testing. Main bonding to be inspected and replaced if necessary. Guarantee period. Favourite brand of tea/coffee and you only eat chocolate biscuits.

Oh by the way, CU swaps are notifiable as you know, how much does the LABC charge for this down in Surrey?:grinningelf:

If I were you, I wouldn't include such points on a letter. I always put such information on my estimates so the client can see what they are getting for their hard earned money and what may cost extra. About 85% of my estimates go by email and there are occasions where I give a brief outline of additions/changes/fixes etc etc on the email. I always cover such eventualities verbally when I visit the client to see the site too.

If you have an estimate and a letter, the client could easily say they read/received one, but not the other.

Here is an example from a recent estimate:

NB: Should issues arise from the testing there may be additional costs associated.Modification(s) to lights in loft are excluded from this estimate, I'd like a closer look before discussing pricing/options
