M

monkee

what do you perfer...

ive been fitting Wylex for some time now and really have no issues except the buzz bar and may be the top terminal rails lay out.

so I started to use Starbreaker boards I had to fit these years ago on the House bashing days with the local authority I remember how easy and confident thay

are to use. So now I went in to my supplier to order a CCU yesterday and could not decide which one to buy and stood there ( I think my coffee went cold

before hadmade up my mind )

what do you perfer Hager..Haha.

Wylex - email or write to them with a problem and they ignore you.
Hager - Tech division is always helpful.

If you're choosing between Wylex or Crabtree then buy Crabtree

Then there's the Wylex product recall...

Personally I have only used hager a couple times, I thought they're older stuff was good, However I recently fitted a few of they're new MCB's and thought they were pretty cheap and nasty, wylex/crabtree/volex much better quality and fit IMO

Hager is probably the best of the best in the domestic sector, and second best after schnider in the commercial, wylex is awfull, MK is chep rubbish, i wouldnt give you a thank you for the other junk, volex, contactum, chint, proteus etc. My second choice after Hager is always Crabtree, Crabbies is half decent and the right money.
The Hager stuff is just much better made than the rest, the mcb's have a nice light smooth and positive action, they are well designed, they fit nicely in the board and line up well, unlike crabbies and wylex the MCB's and RCD's never fail, yes the plasic on the boards is thinner that others but its better plastic and its flexible, now there's a revelation for the other manufacturers, a board thats flexible and doesent shatter with knock outs that actually knock out, you never know, might even catch on!
and the glass fronted 3ph boards are stunning and look the part when fitted!!

The worst board i have ever fitted was a HAvelles...............if i shared my feelings on it, well....id have to ban myself!!

it did, now they.ve solved the problem , fair enough, but they have changed the style of all the MCBs so if you have to retro fit 1, it looks a bodge.

I think you would be suprised high tower, The New Wylex is identical to crabtree apart from busbar, as is volex and newlec as far as mcb/rcbo's are concerned, all identical. I have only used the hager invicta 3phase db's personally and thought they were very good, this was 5 years ago.
Recently i had to retrofit some mcb's and thought they felt pretty poor quality, not slating the operation.
We have fitted thousands of the new wylex/crabtree and havent had a single failure, that was compared to about a 10% failure rate before the recall, I guess it means they bucked their ideas up.

Proteus is the worst I've ever fitted!

The product recall affected all of the electrium brands I thought? (crabtree, wylex, volex, newlec)
Yeah - MCB Exchange Page
Hadn't realised that Electrium handled Crabtree. Can't say I ever use Crabtree stuff but you are correct that they were on the recall list also.
