Hi all,

I have to carry out some minor works in a utility room and tried getting a RCBO for the above cu CEF have told me the board is now obsolete and you cannot buy RCBO's for them.

1) Does this mean a complete board change or is there any way I can just protect the ring circuit I am adding to?

2) I have to add 2 x downlighters will these need to be RCD protected also?

3) Is a utility room classed as a special location for B/regs purposes the same as a kitchen?

Any help greatly appreciated.

1. Run the circuit supplying the points you are wiring through an RCD in an enclosure alongside the existing DB.

2. The downlights would only need to be RCD protected if they were in a bath/shower room, or if you were installing cables associated with them flushed into the wall at a depth less than 50mm and not in steel conduit/earthed sheath etc.

3.Not to sure on this one but if it was directly adjoining the kitchen I would notify...a completely separate room I wouldnt.....might be wrong on that one tho.

Hi Wirepuller

Thanks for the reply - where would I run the feed to the new RCD from? do I still use the outgoing live from the existing 32A mcb and run a neutral from the neutral bar? or if not where is the best place to pick up the live feed to the new RCD from?

Thanks again
