as anyone fitted a crabtree starbreaker dual RCD fusebord and had to try and tempoarly bodge it because the cuircuits havan't held in, i had it today when the sockets kept tripping out and i coud'nt be bothered to find the fault that day. I went to go change it around so it would work on the main switch and couldn't find a way of doing it, it's like a plug in busbar. Can some one tell me is it possible or am i just being stupid ? cheers

Re: craptree starbreaker

Don't mess about with - you'll break it. and yourself if your not careful, you have obviously got a N/E fault on the rings or you have wired the board incorrectly ,
I suggest you test each circuit to establish the fault and correct it

Yes mate if your RCDs are tripping theres a reason for it. If you need to get on then find out which circuits are tripping and leave them disconnected for the night, and hope your customer will put up with a night without some lighting/sockets etc. Don't just bypass the RCDs when you know there's a fault, it's a recipe for disaster.

yeah but if it was working from a mainswitch before (wylex rewirble fuse) iam sure 1 more night isn't gunna cause a disaster, geeez i wouldn't feel satisfied leaving a customer without any of there power. So i'm just ment to walk away and let all the freezer and that defrost. Nice one, Wicked advise.

Cheers!

That's why before changing a C.U. most people do few preliminary checks first

This.

I think it is good advice as a matter of fact - regardless of what it was like before, you have now worked on it. You are not alowed to leave it in an unsafe condition. You can guarantee that the night you leave it in this condition is the night someone gets a shock and sues your ---. Unfortunately, that is the way the world works.

On the other hand, on re-reading your initial post - wanting to 'bodge' a job because you 'couldn't be bothered to do it today', I doubt you're going to lose a great deal of sleep over it.

Oh, and no you're not supposed to walk away and let their freezer defrost, you're supposed to stay behind late and finish the job, or at least get it to a level where essential circuits are working. Or do a test before you touch anything and work on the bunk circuits before ripping out the existing CU.

just what I thought geeez.

lol it's hardly a bodge leaving cuircuits on a main switch if it was previously on one before, prehaps i should of tested it first yes fair enough, fair point but not alot of people do, i can't seeing it causing a disaster if it's left like it is for one night.
