Crimpers

need to buy some new crimpers for everyday use?

any pointers.......makes etc.

also, what do i need for 10mm cable?

i have only used the crimp tool for insulated , red, blue and yellow.............these are knackered now, forge steel make, dont crimp too well now!

dont think these will do for cable bigger than 6mm????

any advice would be great!

I use these for crimping lugs on earth cable.

I can't recommend a specific brand, but yeah you want the ones for red, blue and yellow and another set for 10mm and 16mm

I got a small one for the bag, and one that goes up to 35mm in the van. Can check the make tomorrow

cheers guys, also what barrel crimps do u use for 10mm cable if u needed to extend in a consumer unit?.........ie a shower cable?also do u heat shrink?

If using crimps ie 10mm size i just tape round the joint inside the consumer unit with the appropiate colour tape brown blue etc only use the heat shrink when the crimped joints are unaccessiable.

Heat shrink i used to use now i use electrical standard self amalgamating tape wrap it round and it sticks to its self water proof and insulates cool stuff

cheers guys............are the barrell crimps u use insulated...........if so, do u get them from wholesalers?..........i believe the yellow only go up to 6mm?

is this correct?

Yes you should be able to get barrel crimps from most wholesalers i call them through crimps thou ive never seen
pre insulated above the 6mm yellow size.

2lb Ballpein hammer works a treat on uninsulated crimps. a bit dodgy on the insulated ones though, but just dont hit it as hard

I use a set (crimpers not hammers) that i got off ebay when i bought some meter seals, will do all up to 10mm without problems, dont know make but they are german and very good and cost about £40 with 100 seals and wires.

Use these also had no probs with them.

For insulated I treated myself to a pair of Knipex, which are nice
