Good evening, looking through this months "Proffesional Electrician and Installer" and noticed a feature testing some hand crimps.Shows use on solid and talks about socket back boxes and light switches. Surely this endorsment of a practice in such a flagship magazine once and for all puts paid to a perenial debate.......Discuss...

And the conclusion of this feature was????

Its been deeply discussed already with alot of my own input but i wont be writing out those long threads again but conclusion we kind of started to arrive to was solid cores require special crimps and crimping tool which i doubt any domestic sparky would afford never mind carry.
The standard ratchet crimper is and crimps are designed for stranded cable this allows the cable to take the mould of the crimp as it is formed where as solid deforms the crimp and although may seem initially tight it may have lost its structural integrity and what most forget is this joint has to withstand the high current pulse of a short circuit.

Hope that about wraps it all up.

I have a sneeky feeling this is going to be another lengthy debate on old ground :toilet:
