CSCS Card

Hi, ive been waiting 2 month now to get booked in to get my ECS card, theyve messed up twice with the booking, theres plenty of jobs advertised on the net for a 17th edition electrician with valid CSCS card,

does anyone know or do you work on site with only a basic CSCS card?

im thinking of getting a CSCS card to start work while waiting to get my ECS card

will i be allowed on site?

The cscs card is exactly the same as the ecs. The ecs card is for people specifically working with electrics on site< where as the cscs card is for anybody working on site. They are both governed by the same people.

sorry i wasnt too clear. When i said will i be allowed on site i meant working as an electrician.

The ecs is there for electricians but i can get hold of a cscs quicker

no my understanding is if you are on site with an ecs card the you are good to go to work on site and do electrics but the joiner standing next to you has a cscs and he can work on site but cannot work on electrics.

PS dont try to short circuit the system just push to get your ecs card

yeah most firms just require either one to allow you on site, once on noone cares

have to agree with ezzzekiel (what does this name mean?) Loadsa jobs ask for CSCS, and ive had to explain tht my JIB/ECS card is just as worthy. Also if you hold CCNSG (used to be called SCATS) then that should get you on site too.

Hold out for the ECS card and phone them asking about it ! i know you can check online regarding progression after they have the application ! i know last year JIB was so far behind it took 3mths for mine to get to me ! thats prob why they send you a renewal form before it runs out !

Yer thats the thing with JIB if you miss something out or fill it in even slightly wrong back it comes ! not so bad if it only took them couple of weeks but with the waiting times it ent funny buddy !

ezzzekeil, they wanted part P from you? were you applynig for a special grading?

im approved installation electrician, and i got NVQ3. 2330 L3, 2391 and 17th and cos i got CCNSG, im exempt from the ECS safety test. but with this card i can work in domestic, comercial and industrial.

ive never heard of needing part p for the JIB card?

I rang up Sidcup office 01325 487 829. Booked us in really quickly. Got card quite quick aswell.

to be honest its becoming a bit of a joke, was never really bothered about it until recently when i lost chance of some decent work cause i didnt have the right card.
applying for standard approved spark with 2330 l3 - 2382 - 2391 - 2377 - nvq3

anyways forms came back again last week wanting copy of PartP certificate, story so far:
first never included 2330 certs (they never originally asked but decided they wanted level 2 - 3 cert)
forms came back could i send 2330 level 2330 2-3 certs (er i just have)
forms came back 2391 cert incorrect (this was a mistake on cert by C&G - now rectified)
forms back again for Partp cert

will post again for last time next week then i give up.

Ive just had this problem, Sat the cscs to get on site as I dont have an ECS card, when I turned up for the site induction they checked my card and told me it didnt cover me for electrical work and I was turned around. The company I was going to work for have let me go!
