CU blanking plate

need advice please, is the blanking plate for consumer unit one type fits all make.

Don't think so. Your better off getting the blanks that sit on the DIN and cover the busbar. The front mounted blanks can pop off pretty easily on some covers. Try a google search?

or slap in a breaker and label spare.

To comply with section 416 of the BGB, particularly 416.2.4 you will need one of these:

Blank for Sentry Consumer Unit

Although made by MK they are universally compatible.

Why do you need to buy that specific blank??? When you buy wylex, Crabtree, square d they all come with simple clip in blanks surely they meet the regs

He is referring to the type that sit on the din rail not the push fit blanks see belowQ1.59
Do blanks fitted in a distribution board or consumer unit that can be removed without the use of a tool or key comply with the requirements of BS 7671 with regard to access to live parts?
If the distribution board or consumer unit is fitted with blanks that can be removed without the use of a tool or key resulting in live parts being made accessible to touch, at least one of the following requirements must be complied with (in addition to the manufacturer’s instructions):

The lid over the blanks can be secured and opened only by use of a tool or key
The distribution board or consumer unit is in a locked location accessible only by key held by a responsible person
The distribution board or consumer unit is located in a generally inaccessible area (in which case compliance with other relevant requirements (such as accessibility for operation, maintenance and repair) needs to be confirmed)
If the distribution board or consumer unit is located in a generally accessible area and has a flap-type lid with no securing device, the blanks fitted must be of a type that can be removed only by opening the front cover, using a tool or key.

Nothing wrong with push-fit blanks, provided they lock into place properly and can't be pulled out by just hooking them out with a fingernail. Obviously, the ones that clip onto the DIN rail are pretty foolproof.

what about the blanks that come in the box with most CU's. They wont meet this

Some though like mg/schneider are pretty flexible and a bit of a push can just go through

I guess it depends whose gear you use. I've just tried hooking the blanks out of my own CU (Crabtree) and there's no way just using fingers.
