I have just come across this on the dIYnot.com forum...

what do you mean get a professional to do it, I replaced mine last week with a larger unit. Okay i'm not an electrician but would say I'm electrically minded, it was dead easy you just need a bit of common sence and a good memory or diagram to remember what circuit goes where. And don't forget to remove the main house fuse but if you are a little worried the local electrical authority may stamp on you for doing this go buy yourself a nice pair of marigolds (only joking)

... hmm!, why do we bother spending 100's of pounds and going thro' hell getting qualified and assessed to become electricians.

I'd have thought after notifying building control (ÂŁ100-200) and buying an approved MFT (ÂŁ400-ÂŁ800), and going on a dodgy course to prove youre competant enough to use it (1000 and a week off work) you'd be better off paying a professional.

Otherwise, you'd be breaking the law......

just hope he' put in a B&Q Special with 1 RCD for all, and that he gets some nice intermittent leakage, enough to defrost his freezer when it trips out and he's away for the weekend spending the cash he should have paid one of us
