try western power to put isolator in if not get them out to pull fuse if all that fails turn everything off and pull suppliers fuse, i was stuck on this before, have a read of the thread posted yesterday about c/u change it will help you out no end i read it stuck by it and hay presto tested everything turned on power and both rcds stayed on customer well happy and gave me a ÂŁ20.00 tip not much but but it all helps good luck and just remember never work live

yeah mate try to get western power to fit you a isolator i just got british gas to fit one at my bruvs today ÂŁ39 and they also fitted a NEW METER AND TAILS ON THERE SIDE OF ISOLATOR or get them to pull the fuse and you fit a isolator so now i can work on it at mine and our kids convenience without the worry of pulling the fuse but as a last resort then switch off all load and pull the fuse you shouldnt really but its what most do and at least you wont have to work live as you deffo shouldnt do that

Just a word of warning about pulling the suppliers fuse.

1, It is Illegal
2, It is also very dangerous.

A couple of years ago an Electrician in the Plymouth area got killed when he attempted to pull out the service fuse. He grabbed hold of it just like we do and the holder crumbled in his hand, leaving him with a handful of hot and very live fuse holder.

If I come across an install that requires the fuse to be removed I contact customers supplier and get an Isolator fitted. If this cant be done quickly I pull the tails out live from the meter with VDE pliers, do what I have to do and then refit again live. Not an Ideal solution but I would rather a VDE screwdriver get damaged than me, or even the fuse itself. But come what may I NEVER pull the cutout fuse.

I also reseal any meters or fuses which are unsealed.

Cheers............Howard;)

where do you get seals from to fit yourself

ive only ever done it once and even though my bruvs had the seal missing for ÂŁ39 i would rather they did it plus its better and safer for all if we always try to get supplier to fit a isolater

not sure how you lot get on with arranging for supplier to pull fuse for you but my local only give a morning or afternoon appointment meaning you could be sitting around for quite some time, thats if they show at all:rolleyes:

JW Instruments in Normanton, Near Wakefield. I fit a lot of landlord meters so i usually scrounge a handful when I am there. He does have a website and does mail order.

thanks howard our kids had no seal as the guy who did the extension about 6 yrs ago must have pulled fuse to fit a 12 way as well as the existing 4 way wylex fuseboard it all loks dog rough and my brother wants me to sort it as well as other jobs
waited all day for Unitied utilities to fit isolator so why i was waiting started trying to trace all circuits hard work no certs or anything nothing labelled as i wish to use for registration and assesment with elecsa
cheers for advice on the seals

i rewired my house and pulled the main fuse with vde slip pliers would never attempt to pull out tails live just seems silly i'd say that was more risky than pulling fuse. where can i get wire and crimp from to re seal the fuse also need to seal the meter as i had to move position of that. i know i shouldnt of but needed to be done unfortunately. no other option.
