Very simple question, but new to the game and not done any major work yet; if there's no distributor's isolation switch so you need to pull thier fuse to disconnect the supply do you need the electricity company's permission? Do they need to be called out to reseal the fuse after reconnection?

The offical and correct answer is you cannot touch the main fuse, the EAWR regs state we do not work live unless absolutely necessary on a practical basis most sparks remove the main fuse themselves.

Hope that helps

in a word yes. You are supposed to get them to break the seal and pull the fuse. And reseal. Important word there is supposed

Yes you do. But I cant remember the last fuse I pulled which had a seal on it;) but i always reseal afterwards anyway. A word of warning though before you grab a big handful of fuse make sure the fuseholder is in good condition as a Sparky was killed in Plymouth I think a year or 2 ago when the holder crumbled in his hand. If it looks dodgy i usually pull the live tail from meter to CU at the meter terminal with VDE pliers. We shouldnt be touching any of this but needs must and just be careful. You can call out DNO for a disconnection but dont put too much in your diary for that week. Some will come and fit an Isolator for a nominal fee, some will do it free of charge, and some will not have a clue what you are on about.

Cheers.........Howard

Last time I had a guy from EDF out to a job I indicated the tag was missing from the main fuse but honest, it wasn't me. He said he's not bothered anyway if sparks need to pull the fuse. It's jut the tag on the meter that he is concerned about.
