I'm just trying to understand what i'm talking about before ringing round for an electrician to do the work so I don't get told I need to do things I don't (been tricked before)! -

I'm wanting to replace my CU (re-wirable fuses) with the modern RCD and MCB. If my understanding of the latest regs is correct as i've got an earthing rod, all my circuits need to be protected by a 30mA RCD (or more than one).
My main query is this - I've got an old 60A main fuse and my main isolating switch is at 60A too. I've contacted my supplier to get the main fuse upgraded, but they did mention that it might only go upto 80A fuse. If they only update to a 80A fuse, can I still use a CU with a 100A main switch? I've looked around for boards with a 80A main switch but can't find any?

So, basically, can I use a CU with a 100A main switch, if my main fuse is only at 80A?

Many thanks for any advice! I will be getting someone into do the work, I just am trying to understand a little!

Your main switch will be rated at a Maximum of 100A; the 60/80A header fuse is to protect this (& tails meter etc)
The time to worry is if you put a lower rated main switch so if you intend to upgrade to an 80Amp supply then you definitely need to get a 100A rated main switch & Consumer unit.

BTW ensure that the electrician can certify this work as it is notify-able under Part P

How many circuits do you have in your existing, and break them down. i.e. ring main, shower, cooker, upstairs lighting etc. might be able to offer advice
