Hi Guys & Gals

Will be doing a consumer unit upgrade in January, will have to do a bit of crimping as cables are not long enough. Is there anything else I should do or could do for safety. This job (lucky me) will probably be part of my assessment so need it to be better than perfect.

Any suggestions welcome.:D

:)As you are probably aware there is nothing to say extending cables is against regs. However what you have to achieve is the correct continuity and insulation resistance where you have made the new connections and this is where it becomes difficult. Inline connectors should be used that have the insulation already moulded around them, this should prevent any conductor material (bare wire) being outside the crimped area. (don't forget to pull test the wire to ensure correct crimping!)

On top of the crimped area i then use heat shrink plastic on each seperate conductor to further enhance insulation resistance. (don't forget to slide the heat shrink on to the wire before crimping, it's so annoying to finish crimping then see you haven't put the heat shrink on!!)
That's the way i do it anyway, if anyone can correct me please feel free (be gentle!):D
