Not trying to stir or have digs on here being a newbie and all. But I think I have a valid point.

Part P doesn’t work, from a customer’s point of view why would they pay £60 to add a double socket when the plasterer will do it for free?? No one can prove when it was added or who did it. Especially when money is tight? If we are totally honest there are a lot of people out there that claim to be electricians when they hold no qualifications at all.

This comes from my neighbour is having a new kitchen fitted at the moment and the plasterer came yesterday, young lad, adding new kitchen sockets before plastering. All included in the price. After then watching Watchdog, not a good impression for the Trade.

I fully appreciate it takes a lot of time and money to get the right qualifications. When you price a job correctly and local so called builder down the road can cut your quote by half. What is the customer going to do? As time goes on, more and more, factory workers, low paid workers are going to realise that they can call themselves Electricians and blag their way through. Leaving qualified electricians leaving the cost. Even my tiler offered to open and add new kitchen sockets when I installed my kitchen.

Qualified Electricians are happy to pull the fuse when installing new Consumer’s units when it’s against the law what’s stopping others?

What are your feeling on this?

Don’t shoot me down!!:D

At least we know what we are doing when we pull the main fuse and that is a requirement of the EAWR not to work live.

Part P will never work until it is properly implemented and the consumer educated when is the last time an electrician was prosecuted for not informing building control when he should have. Before the election I had the local MP on the door he did not know what part P was so why should anyone else.

Where the problems will come in is when the consumer makes a claim on his household policy for cowboy work and that sort of thing.

Dont hold your breath waiting for any changes Ive got a sparky working a few doors away from me on a domestic property and no logos at all on the van.

Chris

no logo on the van goes for nothing Personaly I wouldnt put logog(invited for tool theft) on a van even though I live in an area where my neighbours son handed my car key in 2 days after my wife had left it in the door I wouldnt have noticed it missing till the weekend as i use works van during the week
