Hi all

Can anyone tell me, how many types of DC motor starters are there? Please send me any document on this which contains all the types of DC motor starters with their electrical diagrams and working.

Regards,

Going back to my college days, we did loads of theory on DC starters. They all involved starting the motor with resistance in series with the armature until the motor rotated and the back emf built up. It was gradually reduced until it run at full speed and torque.

In practice, I have seen very few like this. The modern way of doing it is to reduce the armature current at start up by chopping the waveform through the armature by thyristors.
