I came across some dado trunking last week that had been run directly above large radiators. There are sockets and data points directly above the radiators. The sockets supply computers, the cables run over the top of the radiators. I would be surprised if this damaged the cables however over time I am not so sure; to those that do PIR's would you flag this up with a code and if so which one.

Tricky one.....which might explain why nobodys had a bash yet.
Personally I would only code it if there was actual heat damage visible, both to the installation above the radiators, and to flexes possibly trailing over a hot surface....if there was evidence of heat damage it would be at least a code 2.
If there was no evidence of heat damage I would at least bring the issue up in the summary and suggest the affected parts should be monitored regularly.

I would agree, I know of nothing in the Regs that say you cannot do this, how ever if there is heat damage then it becomes an issue. not because of the socket being above the radiator but because of the heat damage.

I wouldn't say there was nothing in the regulations, 512.2.1 is quite clear on external influences and design, selection & erection of equipment.

As Wirepuller said though, if you have an existing installation then your risk assessment is made much easier!

Completely agree, as I said there is nothing wrong with the radiator but more to do with the heat damage, as you pointed out 512.2.1 Equipment shall be of design appropriate to the situation in which it is to be used or its mode of installation shall take account of the conditions likely to be encountered.

so whilst I know of nothing that stops you placing a socket outlet above a radiator, if the materials used are not for the task we have a problem.

Is it possible that the conductors supplying the socket-outlets or in the flex to the appliances will reach a temperature that is higher than which they are designed to reach?
If so, then I would suggest a code 2.
