Not sure about it being a positive for PV given that those dams were in the US but twas pretty awesome when they blew that first one

Looking past the schmaltz, isn't this what PV is all about? Working better with the planet? Hydro-electric is cool, granted, but it's also pretty destructive and whilst I don't exactly see a direct link to PV either from the video (and it is fun when they blow the dam) maybe we could restore some of our broken watercourses when we have a better balanced energy supply?

nope, I see this as a negative thing. They only destroyed the dam because it was more cost effective for them than installing a fish ladder to allow the fish to migrate past the dam.

that hydro dam alone would have generated more low carbon electricity a year than all the PV installed in the UK since March, and has been generating that electricity for most of the last century.

it all seems pretty nuts to me, but hey at least the canoeists and fishermen are happy.... shame about the mountains having their tops blown off and the valleys filled with the waste to strip mine the coal that will be burned instead, which is the real truth of the matter.

Nutters. Nimbyism gone mad. Serve them all right if someone went and built a nuclear reactor up there to replace the lost giga watts.

The dams were pretty heavily silted up and did not seem to be holding much water. The fish pass would have reduced the available water for generation, removal of the silt not viable.... It's all about the payback as we know...

I'm all for blowing stuff up but can't we start with the banks?
