....and damned kitchen fitters and so forth. I am so sick of seeing fused spurs (switched off, you know, so it's safe) with a bare bit of flex sticking out of it just cut off and left, presumably where an appliance used to be. Have been seeing loads of them recently, saw one in a house today at about waist level in a bathroom. The woman had 2 kids about 5 years old. Apparently it's been like that for about 3 years.... 'It wasn't live, was it?' she asks. Wish there was someone I could grass these guys up to, but no one cares.

Also wish that when I'm doing all this isolation of dangerous wiring, for free, when pricing up jobs, that the person I then give the price to for the job they originally wanted, had the decency to accept the quote, not say 'we'll call you' and get Mr Zkywskovchzi to do it on the cheap. Maybe the two go hand in hand, no?

Unfortunately the cheapskate attitude and the bodged/shortcut job will usually go hand in hand, the attitude tends to be "who cares if the work is of a low standard because I have saved myself a packet" (ignorance of any safety standards and the implications is bliss you know)

One of the reasons that I don't do domestics any more, at least in the field I work in everyone understands the why's and where-fores (even if health and safety is taken to the nth degree)
Still no comfort to you Buddy but be happy in the knowledge that the work you do is not going to injure, or worse kill someone.

Had the same a few weeks back, plumber replaced the old cylinder and boiler with a combi, the old boiler time clock etc was in the cylinder cupboard he'd just ripped it off the wall left all the old cables exposed sticking out of the wall, all he'd done was pull the fuse out the spur below the rats nest

Did a repair (FREE AS JUST NEEDED ITEM PLUGGED IN!!!!) on a motorised pool cover for a local farmer, had been wired by said Polish friends, issued safety notice and told him I would not allow my childeren in his pool, despite free 'repair' and prommises of remedial work I bet his kids are still using the death trap pool!

Farmers Dont get me started on farmers brother in law( a buisness man not good with DIY) asked me to wire pump on his red esil tank No probs we will run an SWA from the CU in the house Then he piped up "Jimmy up the road ( Jimmys a farmer whoes house makes the Dingles look like Buck Palace)says just join it to the electric gate supply on the drive way " My reply was Go get Jimmy to do it I dont think hes talking to me now
