Discuss Day rate ?? Hourly rate ?? what you charging ?? in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

I think it depends on the job ect. If you were needed to fault find, then that would be hourly, or if on a large site with lots of waiting about, permits ect, then that might be better on dayrate. Larger jobs might be priced on dayrate, with materials on top, or sometimes the main contractor may free issue materials, and your labour only.

It depends totally on the job. If it's a straight forward job that you can see when you do your site visit, you can easily quote a fixed price. If it's hidden wiring and you are just dealing with a few extra sockets or moving lighting around, you may be better doing it on an hourly rate.

For daily rates, good example is a job i looked at during the week, walls coming down new ones going up showers in and out. Hard to tell how old all the wiring is until you get into it etc but the job is definately more than a few days I always suggest a daily rate. The best way is to be honest about it. I told the client that from what i had seen, it would probably be better to aim for a re-wire (there is an extension going up too) to rationalize all the wiring that is there already and supply the new areas. Often it works out cheaper for the client to go down this route because you are starting from scratch with a good plan and takes less time than faffing about adding to and altering existing circuits.

We have agreed to wait until the walls come down and assess what the existing installation is like and go on a daily rate from there...
