I've read a lot if posts re day rates etc but few on how many days the average sparks charges for different jobs.

So here is my example:-

1. Hot tub install, 35m 10mm SWA into usual IP66 boxes, 4 gland connections, kill button, lighting circuit etc. SWA will be surface mounted on brick walls.

2.Seperate external lighting circuit run in 20mm plastic conduit etc.

3. Install 2x 6ft double fluorescent light in garage garage cu with RCD's etc in place.

Total materials excluding lights at trade comes to just under £400.00.

I'm charging 2 days labour at £135.00.

Location is Suffolk.

Too cheap or what?

I really hope that's not 135.00 for both days, you need to be around 200.00 per day IMO and 30 per cent mark up on parts .

Well then 160.00 it is then still better than 135.00

No £135 a day. If it was for 2 days I wouldn't even get up!!

Thank god for that I was getting worried lol

Max day rate self employed in Suffolk on Domestic I can get and win a job appears to be £160 ish. Above that get beaten by foreign imports!!

You need to work harder on your overall service/image or find better customers or work faster...........or all of the above!

If your pricings right You should not be winning more than about 70% of the work you quote for

£135 for a days work is a pittance, you do realise after your overheads, tax etc etc youll actually pocket about half of that, this would be my rate for half a day plus vat!

why bother working self employed when you can get an agency job for the same money and none of the hassle???????

even if the customer pleaded poverty and wouldn't pay more than £800 I'd walk away tbh. not worth the money for me. i have plenty of customers that will pay me what I'm worth. if you're extremely cheap, it says a lot about you tbh.

I sometimes do sum sub work for a couple of companies in and around Suffolk and Norfolk and trade to trade is £150 -£180 plus parking / expenses and dependant on location mileage
at £135 that's £16.78 an hour for 8 hours by the time you take off your tax insurances scam fees fuel van running costs tools calibration etc. there is not much left

I am sure I am not alone but at that rate I would be working for about 3 months of the year just to cover my over heads
