Dear members,
can you please assist.
As soon as start PB is pressed, the drive cuts off immediately and goes to Error mode. We then have to switch off the drive to reset it. We had the newdrive board put in recently. Could it be problem with the motor rather than drive? anything we can look at to identify the issue. It’s Mentor 2 Drive. See attached pics

Is it a shunt wound motor?
What happened that required a new drive board to be fitted?
What testing have you done so far?

Motor spec attached.
The board went dead all of sudden. Transformers blown. New board comes on but when PB is pressed the Drive cuts the power to motor. And then will have to switch off the drive and switch back on for reset.
Could it be field problem in motor? What tests can be done

Time to call a specialist Engineer, who has knowledge of this type of Machine, Kootni, in my opinion.

Is it giving a fault code, the pic shows 118 on the readout that is a fault code for field loss or no current in the field supply circuit so yes could be a motor winding issue.

Board went completely dead first, stone dead. Haven’t checked motor winding. Wonder why the original board totally died. Orange transformers just leaked probably due to over current. See picture

Registers #1 to #19 will give you the drive status at point of failure until the drive is powered down.
Each register has a use and the status will help you identify the fault.
Note them down, and then check against the documents what the contents of those registers refer to.
That will tell you hopefully what the drive status is on shut down, so should point you in the direction of why there is no field current flowing (fault #118).

OP, if this is on a machine breakdown, would it not have been cheaper to bring in a drives specialist by now after several days downtime the losses must be astronomical, guessing from the drive and motor an extruded application? So a line on stop? Costs running towards ÂŁ100k surely?

These drives are commonly found on larger extruders.

Have you done the basic motor tests and insulation resistance tests?

You need semi-conductor rated fuses for this application, cheaper fuses aren’t economical!
