We are designing an install whereby the DC string cables need to come back from the middle of a garden to the property. We plan to install 6mm 4 core SWA cable to carry the load (2 strings) and wonder whether the armouring of this SWA cable needs to be earthed as in an ac application - the Regs are not clear on this matter. Any advice would be appreciated.
 
Yes, earth the armour back to the inverter earth.

Reason is that if the cable is then penetrated and contact made with one of the dc cables within, then most inverters will detect that and shut down.
