Hi all,

I'm not an electrician so would appreciate some help from all the people with the knowledge please.

I'm making a power supply to operate several pumps for and aquarium off one plug

I'm going to use a MW HLG-320H-24B PSU To power 5 pumps all pumps are 24V and are maximum 52W

I wanted to add switches to the individual 5 pumps so they could be turned on/off

I've been advised about this being a bad idea because or arching
I dont understand the difference between a switch and me just pulling the individual plugs to the pumps

Wouldn't unplugging and putting them back in the jack plugs be the same as a switch?

Can anyone give me some help please[ElectriciansForums.net] DC switch aquarium project

Simple as that. It is true that switching dc will take longer to extinguish the arc than for ac and switches can be rated for both however the voltage rating for dc will be considerably lower. For example a switch rated at 15A 250v ac will also have a dc rating of 15A but only at 30v.
The switch I linked is specifically rated at 20A 24v dc.
