32.
We recommend that the Government change the terms of the competent persons
schemes for Part P to require by a specified date that all those carrying out domestic
electrical work have a qualification equivalent to NVQ
, Level III
and
to have completed
successfully a significant period of supervised on the job training for the work they
undertake
,
which is notifiable under Part P. Our aim is to ensure that all work notifiable for the purposes of Part P will have to be carried out by a suitable qualified person.
This is a step in the right direction BUT I would also like to see this NVQ III be added to (or pre 1996 C+G equivalent) Or are we saying that us sparks who trained prior to 1996 and served full apprenticeships with AM1 AM2 as well as the C+G courses that we did also as for me I have 15th IEE 16th IEE and now 17th IEE plus my 2391.......are we really saying that I cant do part p notifiable work because I don't have an NVQ that did not even exist and IMHO is not even near to the standard of training that I received (I would say that lol).
TBH I would say that the requirement as well as the NVQ or equivalent should also be accompanied with an AM2 as well as a testing and inspection qualification. I also think the bodies that oversee this stuff should NOT be allowed to provide the training as i see a conflict of interests in that regard. You could/should have inspectors that work for the schemes (Tech level sparks ??) and the training for adult trainees should be done at tech colleges as they are done for apprentices.
