As an ex Manager of Electrical staff and as a Mentor in this forum, one thing I hate more than anything is bullying of vulnerable youngsters, I was bullied at work but lets not go into that.

I have just watched a documentary about Deepcut Army Barracks. Not sure if everyone is up to date with what has apparently happened over the years there, 4 teenage recruits have, according to the inquest committed suicide due to the sexual and non sexual bullying that has been going on for the past 20 odd years.

4 young lives snuffed out due to bullying, the documentary focused on one particular young Women 17 she was, shot her self in the head with an SA80 rifle, one of the Male guys was shot 5 or 6 times in the chest, how?

The program focused on the NCOs of this camp, not one mention of the commissioned Officers was made. I would like to know what, if anything forum members think of this, it all happened around 1995, sorry if you feel this is not warranted in this forum, just makes my blood boil that's all, nobody held to account, if this had happened in our industry, well you make up your own minds.

It not just Deepcut in Surrey, many other so called suicides, have happened in British Camps all over the World. Files I have actually seem when working on Deepcut, showed all died from two shots to the head...reason two shots is first was fired second was retriggered by victim due to rifle ricochet. Now thats specialist forensics, but what every inquiry states is the gun and ammo was signed out from staff at stores by the victim late at night. Why were they allowed to sign this equipment out ? All shot themselves in Barracks of 10+ but no witnesses ?. All seem to be be slandered after the event by higher ranking staff? but privates state they were decent well liked soldiers. Over so many camps, are the incident so similar ?. There seems a lot of covering up, and diversions to me. Either these Soldiers are push to the limit, or this is a well known way to bump a soldier off. Are any modern know drugs used incase of Chemical or Bio weapons, which are known to course mental disorder been used ? The said drugs where given to soldiers in Desert Storm and had mental side effects on some soldiers.
There are alot of questions unanswered in all these cases.

Yes a lot of unanswered questions need answers, not sure if drugs were involved as this was over a period in the mid 90s, there was one guy who apparently came to Deepcut as a Staff Sgt but in fact was an ex NCO who was demoted to a private and apparently molested one guy on a couple of occasions, what the ---- were the Army higher Archy doing? SFA that's what. a lot more to come out in the future I'm sure.

I quoted you just to see if you still cannot find this thread Pete?

I heard about this on the radio the other day - apparently one of the families was campaigning for a full inquest to dispute the initial claims of suicide for 20 years, then the inquest recorded a verdict of suicide.
I have no idea what actually happened there but to my mind a suicide is exactly that, even if they were bullied into it; if someone else had pulled the trigger (in one case it was shown the deceased was shot at long range) then that's murder, and appropriate action should be taken.

I'm not trying to trivialise bullying in the workplace here - I've suffered it myself and witnessed it - at my last place there was some guy who decided to turn his hand to manual work after having a heart attack and stroke in his previous career as management. He didn't have a trade so had to carve out a job for himself there, and part of this seemed to be to bully one of the decorators by disparaging his work to the rest of the maintenance team, taking pictures of his work and showing them the boss etc. Both of them were approaching retirement so I don't think it's strictly limited to 'vulnerable youngsters'. The boss didn't seem to want to do anything about the guy doing the bullying because of his background, his age and he had a gob on him; presumably the boss considered it easier to put his fingers in his ears and brush everything under the carpet, which annoyed me.
