Anyone doing the defined scope course ? According to the course book, there isn't so many jobs need doing as apposed to the full scope, none of the major stuff anyway re-wiring etc. Just replacing a light bulb and switches. I hope it pays just as well.

Bodge being the operative word Tel, hence my "Oh flipping eck" had one round my place when we had a new kitchen, me "how are you going to move that twin socket then matey" tape it up an plaster it in, that's why I dusted my tools off and did the wiring myself, yes I did get the fitter to notify, bleedin Muppet defined scope my backside, defined scam more like it.

Obviously the full scope gang all started out as Domestics to begin with. So you all must be bodgers in that case.

Wtf are you going on about?

There is no normal progression route between defined scope, domestic installer or approved contractor.

Defined scope and full scope are the two options within this ridiculous domestic installer nonsense that has grown up around us.

As Telectrix stated. The defined scope is aimed at plumbers and kitchen fitters. Full scope is aimed at those who wish only to carry out domestic work. You will find the majority of sparks here went the full college/apprenticeship route over many years to gain full Electrician recognition. They have undergone training that far outweighs just defined and full scope, and in fact these qualifications were not a part of their training/education at all. So no, they were never "bodgers".
There are good and bad domestic installers, there are good and bad Electricians however.
Gaining only the defined scope qualification will not leave you with many job opportunities at all I'm afraid, and certainly won't be earning you very much money.

So, I have neither defined scope nor full scope "qualifications" does that make me a bodger?
By the way, I qualified in 1983/4 and have worked in the industry ever since. I've held senior positions and have worked abroad. I take on mainly commercial work and pride myself on doing a good and safe job.
It'll be interesting to see if, after 34 years, I'm really just a cowboy.
