a friend phoned with a question
she manages a night club and has a landlords audit next week
she was concerened about electrical certification being from sept 2006
someone had told her as it was a "Place of public entertainment it shout be tested at 3 years
on checking the NICEIC testing guid I found referance to "Public house" 5yrs and places of public entertainment

the question is could a nightclub be classed as a public house??

its a place of public entertainment. unless the installation is liable to be damaged, i would think 5 years is right. still out if last was 2006 though.

they have till SEPT to get it tested if its 5years they are 2 years over if its 3 years

Local authority conditions of licence. Check the licence to see if its a public entertainment building or a nightclub and take it from there.

I'll add to that.

The table for time in-between PIR's are a recommendation and are overruled by the last inspection all be it an EIC or PIR. Check previous cert, if none available do a PIR ASAP. In your favour:- if you can prove a correct maintenance routine for the past 5 years its proof of correct electrical safety.622.1 or gn3 page 62 explains it better than me.

There could be Local Authority conditions as well, which could entail that the premises are inspected more frequently.
