Hey everyone, I am a small domestic electrician, I have just been asked to do a price for a small dentists surgery, the work includes installing a circuit for the dentists chair and the examination light. I looked at one they have already got installed in the building and neither of them use very much power, the chair was the most at something like 1.6A I think, so what I am thinking of doing is putting the chair into a switched connection unit and the light looped off the main lighting circuit. So in your opinion is this the right way to go or does anyone have any better advice for me?

Cheers everyone
Mark

What does the chair manufacturer say it needs? If you don't know then find out. I see no problem with your lighting circuit. I am not trying to be clever with the comments about the chair, but as you say you are mainly domestic would you fit an oven supply without knowing the facts?

Again not wanting to sound clever, you need to have a nosey in BS7671 part 7, medical locations.

Cheers…………….Howard

I was wanting clever....I have a tendency of over thinking things and completely missing the obvious so your comments are appreciated cheers.

I have wired dentists chairs before, we ran 16 amp radial circuits from a DB to a switched spur unit on the wall near the chair then chased the floor across to the chair and tubed through the chase from the spur, the light as mentioned is fine from the local lighting circuit, that said we wired 4 or 5 lights from memory above the chairs on their own circuit due to ease rather than any other reason.

Will you not be wiring in the waste disposal unit

I'm getting my posts mixed up here......with the one above in the DIY section concerning
'removal of used spares'

My brother recently did it for a dentist in my area. He had used almost same circuits which are used by you. The dentist is satisfied by it and until now we have no complaints from her.

We did a dentist a couple years ago. Much the same, I think we had 3 chairs on one 16a circuit fed to a spur outside each surgery. It was a big place with 9 chairs in total. And the light was just part of the room lights circuit though it had a switch on the top to turn it off when it wasn't needed
