Hi All,
I am not a spark, but I need a few lines on this one. I am going to be changing my bedroom/computersute layout soon, the many loose cables from my pc ect need sorted....I have a multiplug extension lead ( 4input with 3double adapters total of 7 plugs feeding from the extension lead ). How many plugs are safely recommended to feed via an extension lead to a single wall supply? How man computer cables can I safely zip into the widely used cablezip product? Lastly I have an RCD fitted in front of the extension input, is the correct place for the RCD in the line system?

Regards,

Berne

Might be an idea (if you feel confident enough - and if you don't get a spark to do it) Install a Switched Fused Connection unit (could be an RCD one if you like) supplied directly from feed to the single socket and install 4 wall mounted double sockets fed from the Switched Fused connection unit. That way if there is any heat generated by the power supplies of your various kit it won't all be on the one socket. You will also be able to choose which bits of equipment to switch on seperately. As for how many cables you can tie together it really depends on how much load they are carrying.

Hi,

Well thanks a lot, I have also had some replies from other quarters so Im taking a little time to consider, I also been on google with the subject and opitons abound.

Re: Design Ideas Still Unsure

Hi,
Got the diagram, thank you, though still unsure. Are you saying I buy a Switched Fused Connection ( is that the square aluminium box that looks like a lightswitch? ) and run a heavier than normal cable from it too four wall mounted separate pluginputs..all fed from the one cable? If you had time to send me some photos of this type of installation I think I might be wise to implement it.

I have taken a couple of photos to assist understanding at your end, plus send back the image which most looks like the one I should buy for this proposed project. The white plug in the main supply photo is the main lead to spaghetti junction, Im not even sure if the RCD is placed correctly in the chain of power, you might like to relate?

Reply when time permits,

Berne:)

Hi...
I think image no.3 of the attachments shows what Im after with RCD switches included, ( what is the model no or name for this type of SFC unit does anyone know?), but now Im confused as to how I wire four doubles with only one cable , OK I can wire the first double with the cable end, am I then to buy more of the same cable to attach the other doubles in a chain like fashion? What type of cable do I ask for?

Looking at Orange RCD attachment, is this correctly placed in the line ?
