I am currently a final year control system design apprentice and have been assigned the task of designing a lighting system for a multi level platform.

I have selected the bulk head lighting that I am going to use which is Petrel DN series

Product data sheet is ..

http://www.pfp-elec.co.uk/dnseries.pdf

The 200W GLS variant.

This is a rough idea of how I have been guided to layout the lighting for one floor.[ElectriciansForums.net] Designing a lighting system. Need some novice help cable and fuse sizing, volt drops.

Fed from split phase distribution board (phase and neutral 230V) there is a JB (L1-1-R/1) which feeds 4 JBs, three of which then go on to feed the bulkhead lighting.
I am struggling with a couple of aspects of the design.
First is the fuse which I will require from my DB. I am taking a total of 49 bulkhead lights from the DB and will require a suitable fuse. Can some one help me with this please? Or possibly point me in the right direction.
Cable sizing is the next task for this. Can someone advise me on cable sizing for a system like this please?
I have also been asked to calculate the volt drop over all parts of the system. Can someone point me in the right direction or give me some advice. I have a small electrical background however much more predominantly instrumentation.
Im a massive novice at design so I know

If they assign you this task surely the aspects of it were covered over the course, although i dont have the exact question as it was put to yourself but why choose the gls lamps 200w, they are the least energy efficient will take your overall loading to near enough 10Kw too and you've only taken it from one phase?.
I would personally look at the installation lighting requirements and choose a more energy efficient lamp that will tailor your needs then balance the loading over the 3 phase available via a set of lighting contactors operated by a seperate control circuit. Understand im totally lacking most of the info i would require, your circuit breakers will be sized and referenced to the manufacturers technical info as to how many of the chosen style lamps can be put onto the mcb, this also applies to the contactors too, once the correct mcb's and contactors have been worked out then you can design the cable sizing to have a current carrying capacity greater than the mcb, then all the standard cable calcs need to be applied to work out if said size cable dosn't exceed acceptable volts drop levels etc etc .....

I would recommend getting a design and install book with calcs in them as this goes way to deep to give a quick answer on a forum...

I guess the easiest way would be to run a supply from ignition /aux via a relay that drops the supply when the lights are on.
