Hi I'm new to the forum,

I have bought a house and question the wiring in the detached garage, it is a newish house 2 years old. Previous owner was proud of his DIY, I will be getting it checked out depending on the answer. There is a 20A RCD in the CU in the house and then there is a CU in the garage 8A and 16A for lights and sockets. There are 3 lights, which are fine, however there is a single double socket(A) directly above the CU. There is the cable from the CU to this double socket (A) and then there is a cable from the double socket (A) in 2.5 twin and earth to another double socket(B) and then again from Socket(B) to a third double socket(C). Thats it.

Now I'm no expert, thats why I'm on here, but is this acceptable or should there be a cable running from (C) back to the CU creating a ring ?

Thank you in anticipation

That fine, its a radial circuit. If there was a 2.5 from c to the c/u this would make it a ring but would require a 32a mcb.

How dangerous a little knowledge is heh heh ! I was thinking that as there was only one cable to socket A, socket B would have been a spur.

This is why I work in an office !

Thanks for the quick response.

You mention the previous owner was a bit a diyer, If you have not got any certificates or periodic inspection reports in the paperwork for the house and are unsure of the condition of the electrics a periodic inpection would be a good idea for peace of mind. Expect to pay around £180.00 for a detailed report. Theres a lot of advice on the forum that will help you if you would like or need a pir to be carried out.

I think for the sake of peace of mind it's a good idea. As the garage appears correct I am not worried about the house due to the fact he kitted the garage out specifically for work use and seems to have left the new house alone. I think sorting out the PIR is imminent. Thanks

You may not need a full pir, i would only be concerned if it looks like the previous owner made lots of alterations. Check all the paperwork you have and contact a sparks for advice if you are worried.
