Diesel tank wiring question .

Wondered if you could help me with a bit of advice .

Im giving a price for wiring a pump on a diesel tank . The diesel tank is all steel construction sat on concrete slabs outside . The pump is built onto the side of the tank and is rated at 3 amp .

1. Im going to wire it through an issolator on the outside of the tank / pump area ( will this have to be vapour proof even though its outside and diesel .)

2. Will i have to use a firemans switch on the building adj the tank .

3. What size bonding will i need for the tank ( 200 amp 3 ph supply to the building , going to bond from the structural steelwork ) .

All this is going to be powered via a 3 core swa / xple fed from a local ring and through a RCD spur inside the building and a catenary wire from the building to the tank .

Any advice would be gratefully

Your cabling should not penetrate the bund wall but come over the top of it. If the isolation point is easily identifiable and accessible then no need for a fireman’s switch. With diesel a good metal clad isolator outside the bund area will suffice.

As for the earthing CPC I would go for as big as possible (say 16mm) so as to be less prone to damage, not for electrical reasons just physical strength.

This is based on installations I’ve done under the M&Q regulations.

As long as i wont need any explosion proof or vapour proof gear that will do me .

Im going to put a metal conduit box on the side of the tank as it has a coupling welded in the side for the cable from the pump to go through . I will be putting an ip rated cable gland on the inside of the cupboard where the pump is , feed that through the to the conduit stop end box then SWA/XPLE to the issolator on the building wall . Jobs a good one . Hopefully unless anyone can see a problem with this .
