Hi All,

I am installing a Wylex C/U. I bought the unit complete with everything about 18 months ago for my house but haven't got round to fitting until now. Had the problem where the 6A & 16A MCB's were recalled. So I removed them & purchased new ones (as I missed the boat to get free replacements apparently).

The new ones are exactly the same except they look different and are NHX instead of NSB. I was told the Wylex NHX type replaced the now obsolete Wylex NSB MCB's.
I have attached a link to the photo so you can see what I mean.

What are your opinions on this? I am using this install for a Part P inspection.

P.S. Its not fitted yet!!

Many thanks

I can't see any problem, swapping between manufacturers voids compliance with BS60439-3 but that doesn't come into it here.

Good luck with the assessment!

I had exactly the same thing with the two different looking Wylex MCB's! My NICEIC assessor had no problem with it. Good luck.

Dont throw away the mcb,s as I have just had Electrium exchange my stock mcb,s which had the suspect date codes.

I rang Electrium on 01543 438326 & 01543438301 and they replaced them all so you probably have 3 x 6A and 2 x16A give it a go.

i have to admit the new wylex MCBs are tacky as hell and don't feel as robust as they used to!! fitted a small unit other week and was less that impressed with them!!

why does that void BS60943-3 if you use for example Square d on a merlin D.B
or Newlec on a wylex D.B? if the McB are compatable and confirm to 60898 or 61009 for rcbs whats the problem?

the other post linked to has something about same curve and Ka ratings that would mean if I had a motor circuit running orr a Db and a lighting circuit with a long run Id have to use "D" type?? Mix n match is ok as lots of manufacturers actualy "Brand" stuff differently M.G. scnider MK all manufactured to same controls ect dont see the problem It would only effect if different dimensions ect I tend to prefer MG Square D have used CHINT in the past as gaffer said they were same but cheaper as MG till all 25 he bought failed one by one

mogga so what your saying is you have to match all the types of mcbs to suit the highest highest start up? I understand the breaking capacity as it means you work to highest fault current possible but still would question the type statement any reg or refrence?

SS im just sayin the way Marvos post could read in other thread "
Why is it considered a problem to mix different makes of MCB's if their KA ratings, curves and current ratings are correct and they are of compatible frame size? "

mentioning curve(type) this Could be missinterpreted

Back to the missed the boat for free replacement bit, I don't believe that for a moment, get a second opinion. Your supplier should be dealing with it but you might be better talking to Wylex. As the fault is an inherent manufacturing fault I think you would be covered by trading standards for up to 6 years.
