I dunno what to do with this, perhaps someone on here has resolved this..

I am on paye for a company which isn't an electrical company, I am their maintenance manager/Electrician, the NIC application for Domestic installer status says I must be a business or trading as a sole trader, + the usual PL etc, not fussed about paying the PL myself, but does this mean I now need to start my own, almost fake company to get on their scheme, I emailed them about this but I just got back the usual mass generated rubbish..As always grateful for your thoughts.

The company you work for can apply to join the NIC but, you will be nominated as the NIC QS for the company so the buck will stop at you when it comes to all electrical works.

If you wish to join a scheme to cover your own jobs then you will have to register as a sole trader/company along with all of the extras that that entails.

Thanks fellas.

Where would that leave me when doing private work tho ?

I don't want my employer knowing if I am doing any

It would leave you fully covered and sleeping well at night.
Also, if your employer doesn't carry out electrical work then it would hardly be a conflict of interest if you were to do your own stuff in your own time, with your own gear.

Probably worth assuming that he will find out though, why don't you play it down as 'a couple of guvvy' jobs on weekends?
