I have server racks that are supplied by 3 phase PDU,s (basically a sophisticated socket outlet strip) each socket will be connected to a different live phase but the same neutral and earth. iT servers are connected to these outlets. My problem is that i have several single phase retractable trailing leads that are used to connect my crash cart monitors to power, we then connect the monitor to the server via a VGA display cable. I have now been told by H&S that this cannot be so as there is a chance that I could get cross phasing. I do not believe this to be true. But would be grateful for any advice.

If I'm reading this correctly then it does sound that you could easily have cross phasing between your monitor and the server.

Are 100% sure you have 3 phase PDU's? Never seen one in any data center I have been in.
Just checking, you're not confusing your distribution system with your rack supply's? Usually you'd have single phase supply's in your rack fed from 3 phase distribution boards, and usually each row of racks would be on the same single phase, with each row of racks spread evenly over the 3 phases!

sometimes they they put backup psu's on a different phase?

But really you would need 2 faults at the same time?

Edit: Its my personal opinion that the H&S exec, should be put up against a wall and bloody shot.

A reversed polarity on one of the wander leads is the only thing I can think of that would cause problems when connecting the VGA lead. That would need two faults.
They are talking out of their nether regions as per usual.
