Dimmable led gu10 lamps

Fitted 11 down lighters today for a customer who had bought 11 5w led lamps ( gu10 ) it states on the box at they are Dimmable but when I try and dim them they flicker like crazy , I've took one home tonight , rigged it up to a dimmer and it's fine , any ideas ?

What are the specs of the dimmer? Probably not rated for 55watt load

Between 2 and 250 watt , it works fine with one 5 watt led connected

Is there a max distance?

If there isnt I would try swapping dimmer with yours to check if that's the problem

I tried one out the van and had the exact same problem , not sure about max distance but furthest light is no more than 5 meters

try a 400watt trailing edge dimmer.

Have you tried another lamp from van?

Ive heard tales that some so called dimable leds are not dimable

There was a good info sheet which I'll have a look for explaining how to work out what will work, all to do with leading or lagging edge curves, somthing of the sort.

Take your LED load, in your case 55W and multiply this by 10, this is the minimum dimmer rating that you will need - not readily available!

Unplug 7 or 8 of the lamps and see what's happens.

Even if you get the LEDs to dim, do not expect a nice smooth dimmer curve as you get when using halogen lamps - the manufacturers will catch up one day!

Try putting a normal halogen lamp in with the led's. This can help massively.

What type of lights were previously switched from the dimmer?

You might find that the dimmer is a standard dimmer and not an LED compatible one if she did not have LEDs previously.

I can't see the load being the issue as it's only 55 watts.
