Dimmer switch problem

hello everyone
I have recently replaced a dimmer switch and 2 lights which have been working fine, however recently the dimmer was turned up full and the lights went really bright then all of a sudden they dimmed and now will not turn up to full brightness and are very dim. I haven't had chance to have a look yet due to work but wondered if anyone had any ideas to help me out.

Sounds like the dimmer switch is playing up. Did you make sure there was a deep back box behind it before fitting the switch?

Check the loading rating of the switch to the actual load you have put the switch under

what type of lights. and what wattage. if halogens, the dimmer needs to be rated at almost twice the load. is the dimmer man enough?

Sounds like it's nacked, as Tel was in rated sufficiently.?
